This afternoon Jeff and I explored a new thrift store that has recently opened in the Northland. The Thrift Shop has been established to provide additional revenue for the Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Platte County. Hillcrest’s objective is to move families from homelessness to self-sufficiency within 90 days. In exchange for rent/utility-free housing, residents are required by written agreement to work full time, obey program guidelines and attend volunteer-taught classes in life skills, employment, community living and budgeting. Hillcrest also provides the following through a network of community support: auto repair/donation, food pantry, medical assistance, dental work, GED classes, haircuts, glasses, school clothes, work uniforms, etc.
This is such a wonderful organization! I love that along with finding great bargains, I am also helping out in a small way :) Really nice store with great prices and a Bargain Basement. I can't wait to take my Mom, but watch out because we are some serious thrift shoppers! lol I found a really cute shell rug for our bathroom for a buck. Also found a nice shirt and pants for J for work. Great new place!
